The Roger Smith Hotel’s rooms are clean and comfortable, featuring cozy beds with soft sheets and bathrooms recently remodeled to maximize functionality. Small thoughtful touches like a complimentary yogurt and granola station, and essentials such as toothbrushes, toothpaste, and even sewing kits highlight the attention to guest needs. The presence of amenities like free Wi-Fi, air conditioning, parking, and pet-friendly policies enhance overall convenience.

The rooftop bar adds a special charm, offering breathtaking city views to end the day on a memorable note. Despite its old-world aura, Roger Smith Hotel meets the demands of modern travelers with clean showers, functioning air conditioning, and well-appointed rooms with microwaves and mini-fridges—a perfect setup for those late-night cravings.

Roger Smith Hotel may not appeal to those seeking sleek, ultra-modern design. Instead, it attracts discerning travelers who value character, history, and heartfelt service in a bustling metropolis. Great location in the city, near Gran Central Station. Small, artsy, familiy-owned hotel. We had a pleasant stay, staff members were very welcoming. They offer complimentary yogurt :) Rooms were clean, nice toiletries offered. Keep in mind the hotel is old, nothing modern, but very well kept. Our room had microwave and mini fridge, we stacked with snacks for our midnight cravings.

We really enjoyed our stay at this hotel. The hotel definitely takes you to an earlier time, with its historical vibe! The staff was friendly and helpful, and we really appreciated the yogurt and granola station. Rooms were clean, comfortable, and great views. Perfect location in NYC! Would definitely stay again!

Booked a sightseeing trip to NY for my whole family. I read all the reviews before I booked and I can’t argue that the hotel is old and the rugs in the room could be replaced and one of my blinds didn’t work properly. However, the location is beyond excellent, the staff are friendly and helpful, the place had some great nostalgic charm, the beds were awesome, the shower was clean, and the price was by far below anything remotely close to to their competitors. The beds were clean and very comfortable, there was plenty of room and loved having a refrigerator and microwave for our restaurant leftovers. There is a Starbucks two doors down and a wakgreens across the street. They validate parking at the lot behind the hotel to a reduced rate and they held our bags on the day of checkout so we could enjoy our last day of sightseeing. Grand Central is a ten minute walk and 51st street station is a 4 minute walk. If you’re into everything being perfect in your room, then you need to spend a couple more hundred dollars a night or waste your sightseeing time taking a train into the city every day. However, if you want to come see the City and spend that savings on your experience’s out in town, this is the perfect place to stay.

5 star for the price and atmosphere. This hotel is still owned by the family that opened it and had a great feel to it. Don't stay if you are looking for a modern place without character and charm. We had a slight problem with one of the beds and they immediately replaced the bed for us. We really appreciated the customer service! Bathrooms were recently remodeled and made great use of the space. Only negative was the little bar on the first floor - can't recommend that but everything else is great.

The most comfortable beds and soft sheets, so glad we stayed here. Shower had a bathtub and super clean. Hot water is a little tricky but that's the neat part. Our room was in front of the elevator and we had a view of the city. It could be a little noisy for some, but you can turn the A/C on and sleep like a baby day and night. Hotel still provides toothbrushes, toothpaste and a sewing kit! You can tell the hotel has lots of history and it's neat to see the old style furniture. I'm glad it's kept like this!! Our first time in NY and everyone at the hotel was beyond helpful with directions to the city. We loved our stay here!

Stayed here a few times on my trips to NYC before they closed. By far the best hotel experience I’ve ever had in the city. And its old charm was like a time capsule from the 40’s. Beautiful red carpet, brass finishes, old style elevator, amazing rooftop bar great room sizes and comfort, everything about this place was awesome. Was very sad to see they closed shortly after Covid. I hope it’s new owners don’t change its rich historic charm.
